An Introduction to the problems solved by the 2,000 lbf Morehouse Portable Calibrating Machine (PCM) and the Mechanical Tensiometer Calibrator

Several organizations perform low capacity force measurements by using some homemade test frame or by stacking weights onto the test instrument to be calibrated. The weights create ergonomic issues that are slow and dangerous for the technician performing the calibration. In almost all low force applications we have observed measurement errors from off-center loading on hand-held force gauges, misalignment errors of 1 % or more on load cells, vibration and potential cable breaking on cable tensiometers.
